Join our monthly STEM Tavern that features a fascinating science presentation plus good beer. For each beer sold at STEM Tavern, Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers will make a donation to the Science Museum of Western Virginia! A food truck will also be on hand.
Dr. Kristie Dorfler and Dr. Mark Caddick:
“Hot Rocks, Cold Beer: Why volcanoes matter”
Kristie Dorfler is a Geotechnical Project Manager at ECS in Roanoke and has spent several years studying and teaching geosciences. Mark Caddick is an Assistant Professor of Geosciences at Virginia Tech and specializes in research of the deep roots of the earth’s crust.
Why do some volcanoes boom like a shaken up bottle of champagne, while others fizz like a cold lager on a summer evening? What actually makes volcanoes go “bang” and how do we know? How has one of the earth’s most destructive forces affected humans over history? Why do we need volcanoes? Learn the answer to all these questions and more!
